About this deal

To make it easier to understand, most graphics cards have at least one dual-link DVI port, single-link DVI-I is kind of dated. Yes, those 4 pins around the + are explicitly for analog. If those holes are not present, the GPU itself is incapable of producing analog. MicroCross DVI Connector System: Digital Visual Interface Standard" (PDF). Molex. December 2000 . Specifications [ edit ] A passive DVI-to-VGA adapter. This adapter will not work with a DVI-D output. It requires a DVI-I or DVI-A output to get the analog signal to a VGA input (even if the adapter looks like a DVI-D). A more expensive active adapter (or converter) is required to connect DVI-D to VGA. Digital [ edit ] If you use the DVI-I or DVI-A versions, you can buy an adapter to convert your DVI output into a VGA interface.

Whether you want to build your own home theater or just learn more about TVs, displays, projectors, and more, we've got you covered. As I mentioned earlier, DVI and VGA are dying standards, but they still have some practical uses. DVI-I is good because it can support modern resolutions (1080P at 60Hz) and you can easily convert it to other connector types. Most analog connectors, such as VGA, require active adapters to convert to HDMI, but you don’t need that with DVI. Manchester, Gary (October 7, 1996). "Molex PnD intellectual property letter" (PDF). Archived from the original (PDF) on February 22, 2003. DVI connection pins are composed of the following potential components: parts of an 8×3 rectangle pinout supporting TMDS, DDC, analog vertical sync, power, hot plug detection and ground signals (Pin 1-24); 4 analog pins for RGB and horizontal sync (C1-C4); and a long flat pin for analog ground (C5). However, if you have a device with a DVI connection rather than HDMI, you should use this to send the video signal.

Because P&D was a physically large, expensive connector, a consortium of companies developed the DFP standard (1999), which was focused solely on digital video transmission using a 20-pin micro ribbon connector and omitted the analog video and data capabilities of P&D. [4] :3 [5] :4 DVI instead chose to strip just the data functions from P&D, using a 29-pin MicroCross connector to carry digital and analog video. [8] Critically, DVI allows dual-link TMDS signals, [9] meaning it supports higher resolutions than the single-link P&D and DFP connectors, which led to its successful adoption as an industry standard. Compatibility of DVI with P&D and DFP is accomplished typically through passive adapters that provide appropriate physical interfaces, as all three standards use the same DDC/EDID handshaking protocols and TMDS digital video signals. Single Link and Dual Link

The card is not the issue (X1300) as it also has a DVI output, which I have used the VGA adapter on and again it gives no display on the monitor, and it is not the VGA adapater that's the problem because I've used different ones and they all give no display. The adapter isn't the problem, as if the card doesn't output vga, it will be missing the 4 pins on the left of that picture (like the single link or dual link one) and thus the adapter wouldn't go in. The digital DVI-D or DVI-I version is compatible with an HDMI connection – so you can get DVI to HDMI cables or adapters if your AV equipment requires a connection like this.
