The characters are never explored completely, but instead we sort of receive snapshots of them at specific points This was very interesting to me, especially since the characters were fairly diverse and dynamic. Danforth's narrative of a bruised young woman finding her feet in a complicated world is a tremendous achievement: strikingly unsentimental, and full of characters who feel entirely rounded and real . . . An inspiring read' Sarah Waters, author of Tipping the Velvet and Fingersmith

The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily Danforth - Waterstones

emily m. danforth's first novel--The Miseducation of Cameron Post-- is a coming of GAYge story set largely in Miles City, Montana, the cattle ranching town where she was born and raised. It was made into a feature film of the same name in 2018. A big thank you to Netgalley and Penguin for the free copy of The Miseducation of Cameron Post in exchange for an unbiased review. And not just because it was really fustrating that she kissed every girl she became friends with, but because it was based on cheating. I don't care if you are closeted, cheating is cheating and if you are messing with someone's realationship, especially if the third person is innocent, you are disgusting. You both are. No acababa de encontrar en la narración de Cameron algo que me hiciera que me atrapara y quisiera saber más de su vida en Miles Town y sus problemas. Los personajes secundarios, aunque bien dibujados tampoco me despertaron mucho interés, pero

The Miseducation of Cameron Post Book Review - Common Sense Media The Miseducation of Cameron Post Book Review - Common Sense Media

Cameron Post is a teenager growing up in a small town in Montana in the early 90s. Her parents die in a car crash the summer she's 12, right after she shares a kiss with her best friend. Her aunt Ruth, an evangelical Christian, moves in as Cam's guardian. Fast forward to her high school years and Cam is desperately in love with Coley Taylor, a beautiful, "straight" girl who seems to reciprocate Cam's feelings somewhat. But then aunt Ruth discovers Cam's secret and ships her off to a school to "de-gay" her.

Retailers:

This was quite a slow book, and while that meant I had a few moments of not quite caring as much as I had thought I would, by the end those parts felt vital to the story. I realized that Cameron had become such a real figure to me, that it was all the more troubling to see way, 'God's Promise Christian Discipleship Program' started to impact her. And I care so much about the side characters!!!! I want another book about Irene Klausen and one about Coley Taylor (MY WHOLE HEART WANTS THIS) and one about Aunt Ruth and and and ALL THE BOOKS, EMILY M. DANFORTH. WRITE ALL THE BOOKS. The characters in this novel are some of the most well-developed and fleshed out characters I have ever read about. Of course, there's the main character Cameron, who is easily a new favorite protagonist of mine. Like everything else in this novel, her voice is so raw and she has these quirks that just make her such a real person.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post - SuperSummary The Miseducation of Cameron Post - SuperSummary

First of all, this might be the most raw and authentic representation of a character I have ever encountered. Cameron's identity as a lesbian is the core of this novel, and the journey Danforth takes us on in exploring her identity is one of the greatest things in literature today.

The book captures a particular time and place (small-town Montana in the early '90s) as a historical snapshot, with a vivid sense of the local culture that makes it easy for the reader to envision living in that reality.

Why? Well, I start by saying that I expected to like it, but that never happened. The beginning was promising. The novel is divided into three time lines, beginning in 1989. Cameron Post is a twelve-year-old girl who lives in Montana. She has a best friend named Irene and a normal family, her parents and her grandmother. We get to know Cameron and her family and the beginning of the summer of 1989. She is discovering things about her own sexuality that make her feel strange, and she knows she's not perfect and doesn't want to. Set in rural Montana in the early 1990s, emily m. danforth’s The Miseducation of Cameron Post is a powerful and widely acclaimed YA coming-of-age novel in the tradition of the classic Annie on My Mind. Cameron Post feels a mix of guilt and relief when her parents die in a car accident. Their deaths mean they will never learn the truth she eventually comes to — that she’s gay. Orphaned, Cameron comes to live with her old-fashioned grandmother and ultraconservative aunt Ruth. There she falls in love with her best friend, a beautiful cowgirl. When she’s eventually outed, her aunt sends her to God’s Promise, a religious conversion camp that is supposed to “cure” her homosexuality. At the camp, Cameron comes face to face with the cost of denying her true identity. It was the kind of heat where a breeze feels like someone's venting a dryer over the town, whipping dust and making the cottonseeds from the big cottonwoods float across a wide blue sky and collect in soft tufts on neighborhood lawns. Irene and I called it summer snow, and sometimes we'd squint into the dry glare and try to catch cotton on our tongues. Cameron's friendship with Jane and Adam is one of the book's best features. Gender issues aside -- and they are, of course, prominent here -- this book will resonate a good deal with readers who appreciate the rewards of finding friends with whom you truly have something in common, especially if you've felt out of place for a long time.Honestly, it's sort of ridiculous that Common Sense Media has rated this book as 5/5 for sex, because even though the main character has a sex a few times, it is never explicitly described, usually just skipped over. The Miseducation of Cameron Post is an important lesbian coming of age novel, and I have seen movies with real explicit sex scenes and/or nudity amongst straight people, that were only given 3/5 for sex. Titanic, which has a naked woman and a sex scene is rated 3/5 and 13+, and if the love interest was a girl then maybe it would be 18+ and rated for too much sexual content. Bridesmaids has a noisy, explicit, awkward sex scene with innapropriate statements bouncing mostly naked people. If those people were both men or women, I bet it would be rated much differently then a. 3/5. There is some swearing, self harm, and disturbing themes ( eg conversion therapy), but overall a great read. Maybe more 14+, but I wanted to lower the ridiculously high age limit.
