About this deal

Players race to become the first to accomplish one agenda on each of these victory cards, spreading throughout the world and ensuring their civilization’s place as the greatest world power.

A player can send a trade caravan to city-states, conquer the barbarians that harass them, and place control tokens on the board to expand their empire and control resources. To become the supreme world power, a player must complete at least one agenda on each victory card presented at the beginning of the game. Unlike the leaders, the city-states and natural wonders are on double-sided tiles so certain combinations can never happen. Playing the game for the first time with three people took about two hours and we didn’t even know two hours passed because we were so engaged with the experience. Before last turn of the game (as it occurred) I had only 1 point and was far away in race for victory.

There is a tech dial that you spin every time you use your technology card to advance your age once you get so far. These five districts hone in on the five main areas of the game and allow you to cultivate your civilization to a particular strategy, something missing in the base game. My name is Michael, I am based in Warsaw, Poland and I have been playing board games since my youth, being firstly attracted to strategy and economy themed ones. I will be on the lookout for an expansion that adds to it though, more terrain options and actual minis for the military would raise my review for sure. The designer has tried to move away from a traditional ‘end game point scoring system’, but this game could have really benefited from that in my opinion.

They move a specific number of spaces, and the terrain type they can cross is dependent on the slot number. different leaders provide their own unique bonuses and challenges, the board is dynamic and surprising, there are different city-states, wonders, natural wonders, and every board tile is double-sided. With every civilization having their focus card acting as an alternative to the original focus cards, you will now have an extra tool to play with and provides a differential that was absent in the base game. Your probably thinking ‘oh I’ll just use slot five every time’, but remember that once a card is used in that slot, it then has to go down to its weakest slot in number one. Focus rows are visible to everybody; each civilization knows what the others can do, and how efficiently.Kuba (Poland) really prepared well for his last turn show – not only conquering the fort but also delivering 16 strength attack, There was not much for me (last in turn) to do except for conquering one of the Kuba’s cities – a bitter-sweet end! Sid Meier’s Civilization: A New Dawn Base Game is a strategy board game in which two to four players act as the rulers of history’s most memorable empires. This ruler sized cardboard piece is what you use to determine what cards/actions you can take during your turn. The game's goal is clever, yet the mechanics that lead there mean that a civ is likely to win with only a handful of Level IV Focus cards.
