When a cunning little mouse goes for a walk in the forest, he manages to outsmart not only a succession of woodland predators but the purple-prickled, wart-nosed Gruffalo too. Throughout each encounter we find the mouse adding more and more to his friend the Gruffalo, making him a scary monster to protect him. The author of the book, Julia Donaldson, collaborated on the script and, although I love the book, I feel that she took the opportunity offered by this adaptation and improved on the book. Encountering three predators who all wish to eat him - a fox, an owl and a snake - the plucky mouse has to use his wits to survive, creating an imaginary monster who then turns out to be only too real.

All the lines from the book are in there and if you have enjoyed reading the story to your children they will probably shout them out at the television. Curious about her father's fantastic stories of a Big Bad Mouse in the deep, dark woods, she sets out one snowy night on a thrilling journey of discovery.
