About this deal

there is a real push-pull dynamic at large that makes you feel like you're constantly achieving one new goal after another.

Similar to the sequel, Below Zero, Subnautica features 2 different modes on PS5. Players can choose from a Quality mode that favours higher graphical features or a Framerate mode that takes the gameplay to a refreshing 60 frames per second. Sadly, that’s the end of any new feature upgrades. As of launch, there are no DualSense features to speak of, which is a little disappointing. Jeremy, Hugh (December 18, 2013). "Why is Subnautica using Unity, and not the Spark Engine?". Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Archived from the original on April 5, 2016 . Retrieved April 11, 2016. The game never had rumble features to begin with, but would've been a welcome addition with the Dualsense's capabilities.

Overview

Submerge yourself in an all-new, sub-zero expedition in an arctic region of Planet 4546B. Arriving with little more than your wits and some survival equipment, you set out to investigate what happened to your sister... In freedom mode, gameplay is near-identical to that of survival mode, but without hunger and thirst. Similarly, Subnautica’s late game experience is frequented by garish texture pop ins, when your character’s own mobility is faster than the game’s ability to load in its assets. I’m hoping Unknown Worlds can and will fix these issues in a future patch, as it was one of my only real persistent problems during my time under the sea.Arriving on PC at the very beginning of the year, and now hitting console at the tail end of it, Subnautica is a must play for 2018. Survival crafting diehards will lap it up like a shark to chum bait, but the game succeeds precisely because of its efforts to push the genre outside of its tired, recursive parameters. Nominee List for 2018". National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers. February 11, 2019. Archived from the original on February 13, 2019 . Retrieved February 13, 2019. Almost everything you do over the course of the 35-plus hour adventure contributes to your overall goal of surviving longer in increasingly deeper and hazardous waters. You’ll need to manage your vitals throughout, by cooking seafood, drinking filtered water, and – perhaps most importantly of all – breathing oxygen. Accessibility Features Gameplay

Some patience is also required when you bump into the game's rare technical issues. Loading save files takes a very long time, there are regular sound glitches where audio vanishes while leaving the water, and crashes can occur when loading your save. Given that you're only allowed a single save slot per campaign, these moments are stressful, though thankfully no saves were lost during our time with the game.To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent. See PlayStation.com/bc for more details. You should see what the late game is hiding for yourself. The map itself is significantly smaller than the original Subnautica's, though. I couldn't help but feel disappointed when I reached the map edge only about 10 hours in and said to myself, "Wait… this is it?" Even so, it doesn’t feel small. If you played the original, you might have some idea why measuring by pure surface area can be misleading. And if you didn't, I'd prefer you get to see what the late game is hiding for yourself. But even Below Zero's deepest secrets don't measure up to the sheer scale of those in the main game. It makes this adventure come across more as a standalone expansion than a true sequel. In terms of what you perceive, there really isn’t a lot to distinguish the quality mode from the frame rate one other than the obvious frame rate improvement. Moreover, there’s hardly much visual improvement over the PS4 version either. All of the texture detail on PS4 and both modes of PS5 appear to be identical. Similarly, it would appear there hasn’t been any improvement to the native resolution, which is unexpected.

Something undiscovered lurks around every corner. Swim through the giant Titan Holefish, encounter the haunting Shadow Leviathan, and visit the adorable Pengwings. Keep your wits about you. Not all creatures in this strange world are friendly. The game features 4 modes; Survival, Freedom, Hardcore and Creative. Survival and Hardcore give the full range of parameters to the experience, with an added permadeath for Hardcore mode. Freedom works similarly but without food, water, or temperature to be concerned about. Creative mode gives you the full map, but with immortal agency and unlimited resources to build to your heart’s content. Unfortunately, the story is disabled in this mode, but that isn’t even the biggest casualty to the game’s structure. Chalk, Andy (January 9, 2018). Subnautica key features

Subnautica is an action-adventure game developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Players control a non-essential systems maintenance chief, often referred to as the janitor inside the Subnautica community, who is the only survivor of a spaceship crash on an alien planet. They are free to explore the oceanic planet. The main objectives are to find essential resources, survive the local flora and fauna, and find a way to escape. It includes some elements of survival games and some elements of non-survival games. Despite its scale and demanding ecosystem, Subnautica is one of the most approachable open-world survival games around. Where most of this sort have a steep difficulty curve to climb, this underwater alien world is easy to get into. The solo-only campaign begins when your ship crashes onto a flooded planet. You awaken, floating in your pod with only the fiery ruin of your former starship to break up the monotony of the ocean that rolls on endlessly to all points of the horizon. Ryley finds records of the Degasi's crew stating that only three survived the initial crash, but later two out of the three are confirmed dead and one is presumed dead. Ryley also learns of the existence of the 'Precursors', an ancient, advanced alien species that came to planet 4546B approximately one thousand years ago in search of a cure for a highly infectious disease, known as the Kharaa Bacterium. The Precursors discovered Kharaa during the exploration of an unknown planet, and the disease spread due to a failure in quarantine procedures, killing over 140 billion individuals. Investigating thousands of planets in an attempt to find a cure, the Precursors eventually located a species of organism on 4546B they named the Sea Emperor Leviathan, which produced an enzyme that could cure Kharaa. However, the only living Sea Emperor was too old to produce the enzyme in enough potency to have any effect, and the Precursors were unable to force its only eggs to hatch. In an attempt to investigate the egg-hatching process of the Sea Emperor, the Precursors took the egg of a related Leviathan, the fire-breathing Sea Dragon, but the mother destroyed a Precursor research facility and released samples of Kharaa into the planet's ecosystem. Forced to evacuate, the Precursors enabled a facility known as the Quarantine Enforcement Platform, which consists of a large weapon that fires on any ships attempting to leave or land on the planet — including the Degasi, Aurora and Sunbeam.
