About this deal

The Chapter's 1st Company is called "the Paragons." These warriors forsake any chance to rise further in the Chapter's hierarchy, and it is believed that they must undergo blood rites and other hidden rituals to gain their elite position. On the battlefield, they are fierce hunters, focusing on the elimination of enemy leaders. This is doubly so because what the Spears get here is actually pretty great. In particular, the stratagems are strong – Skovakarah Uhl Zarun is a little more limited than equivalents in other codexes by being melee-only, but you want to be fighting anyway and +1 to wound is a powerful effect to have. Fight as Brothers also gives you a bonus because it applies to all infantry and not just CORE – nice for Centurions, but also handy for giving characters the re-rolls to hit that they often miss out on. The relics are also decent – the Druidic Talisman makes a Master of Sanctity stupidly reliable, and of course what we needed from Space Marines was more reliable Chaplains. Though the Chapter tactic isn’t unique, it’s a good one, getting your units around the table a little better and making them hit harder when they get there. It’s basically what our own Cyle was already running as an Ultramarines successor, and now you can do that and get more stuff as well. Spear' is a tale that refuses to go the easy way. That plays into all of the strengths of it's author's previous works about humans and Space Marines in the 41st millenium and teases well-trodden, pleasing roads of story, just to pull the rug out under you and engage with the raw, emotional reality of the situations that humans have to face in those circumstances. If it's a story about victory, it's one about those most personal victories that are so much more common, but that much harder to achieve than furious triumphs in battles for the fate of humanity: those that are won in a war not for the soul of mankind, but for one's own. It is a novel about slavery and freedom, about loss and sorrow, about trauma and recovery, and, most of all, about change. I cried three times while reading it, two of those times in the same chapter. AD-B: I think it’s probably most honest to say it’s a distillation or a refinement, which is likely what any author would say, right? It’s always your work, but a slightly different you doing the writing . These are all pretty good! Sentinel of the Veil has real legs and can be a great secondary warlord trait on a smash Chaplain or something similar. Bloodied but Unbroken is neat but not particularly exciting. And Tribal Heritage has some potential, given that it lets you use Combat Revival or Commanding Oratory for free on an Apothecary (if you didn’t make him a Chief Apothecary, for some reason) or Chaplain, or throw out Only in Death Does Duty End to punish an opponent in a pinch.

The Callidus is drawn into the warp. For a single moment, Anuradha thinks she sees a wraith-like fire-wreathed Tyberia drag the Callidus to hell. She thinks it's a hallucination. Of course. She still tells herself that. Kartash" proceeds to badly injure both and leave them for dead. When they awake, they find that they've been captured by the Exilarchy. They're interrupted by the appearance of a new ship bearing down on them - the Blade of the Seventh Son, a Celestial Lions ship! She fully expects to die in the oncoming ram, and all things considered is fine with this. She laughs as the end comes.I could tell you that it's characters are well-drawn, that the world-building is engaging and well-thought out, that the action is visceral, that the pacing is perfect, that it engages with aspects of the new, post-8th-Edition-lore in creative and refreshing ways, and all of that would be true, but it would feel superfluous in the face of what ADB has aimed for and achieved here. The main Spear character is Brêac of the Vargantes tribe, Lord of the Third Warhost. He embodies the Chapter’s defiance and their barbarian values.

Great new novel from Aaron Dembski-Bowden chronicling the story of the Emperor's Spears, a Space Marine Chapter on the edge of destruction, last watchmen over the Elara's Veil nebula. Now, the decisions of one man, Amadeus Kaias Incarius of the Mentor Legion, will determine the Chapter's fate… The Spear of the Emperor, written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden is another Space Marine novel for fans to dive into; but it’s also unlike anything I’ve read so far. Following The Emperor’s Spears and the Mentor Legion, this novel takes place in the Elara’s Veil nebula. Where their war is far from over. At the disposal of the war host are 80 marines of the Third Warhost plus Incarius. Anuradha and the other Helots deploy with the guard in a command rhino. Each controls a cluster of servo skulls individually and they use them and their Rhino's potent communications equipment to coordinate the Guard's assault and keep the Astartes updated on it. The rules for Emperor’s Spears give us a new Chapter Tactic (well, kind of), three new Warlord Traits, two stratagems, and three relics. The Chapter Tactic: Redden the Earth It is only in recent years that High King Arucatas the Swordbearer has eased the tensions that ensued between the Chapter and the other descendants of the XIII Legion of old. No records exist of the Emperor's Spears and Aurora Chapter fighting alongside one another in the seven centuries since.Aaron Dembski-Bowden has turned his attention to creating (and maybe destroying) a Space Marine Chapter in detail, and this is your chance to discover their fate. Later, during the Siege of the Fenris System, the Spear was taken up by Egil Iron Wolf and used once again against Magnus. [4] What makes me praise this book so highly is that the characters – all of them – are above what you would usually expect from a Warhammer novel. They have so much to them, from the outset, that it’s utterly fantastic that they get to develop throughout the novel and Anuradha’s narration is both beautiful and tragic – as it is through her that the story is being chronicled. I currently do not have the book with me, so am writing from my notes. Forgive any minor errors. This will be my longest post to date. Enjoy!
