What size BBQ do I need?

You'll need to wait 10-15 minutes for the coals to start turning white on the bottom, then you can shut off the gas and wait a further five minutes with the lid open.

Cooking on gas also seems to work fine, very good temp control, cleaning is a bit of a problem as the bottom of the BBQ bit is not removable, my old BBQ the whole under side beneath the burners slid out and could be scraped clean quite easily, the Coal 2 gas requires you to remove all the grill, heat shields etc to get and clean it. (Unfortunately, it does say in the small print that this BBQ is not designed to be cleaned by turning it on full and burning excessive off, I hadn’t seen this bit, this technique worked fine on my old barby for years.) Construction Build It’s fun to use and impressively versatile, but there are a few niggles. The unit gets – understandably - extremely hot, meaning the supplied forearm-length gloves are needed constantly whether you’re reaching into the cavity to flip food - the openings aren’t very wide – or more typically, opening and closing the air vents and door clasps. These are small, irritatingly fiddly (when wearing hefty gloves) and detract from an otherwise fantastic cooking experience. Most barbecue manufacturers will claim that dual-fuel barbecues are the best of both worlds, allowing you to reap the benefits of both gas and charcoal models without having to commit to one type. But there are other things to consider. The built-in Wi-Fi connection was easy to set up within the app and the temperature reading matched that of the independent probe we always use. The connection was flawless despite sitting out on the porch away from the router. If you don’t fancy piddling about with the mobile app, it’s not essential, it’s a case of turning the dial next to the D2 Grill Controller display to adjust the temp. Naturally, there’s room for a plug-in temperature probe to ensure your meat, seafood, veggies or baked goods reach the perfect internal temperature.
