About this deal

There’s a lot of humour and sweetness in this and I think a lot of children would enjoy Einstein and his adventures living with a family in London and getting up to a bit of mischief whilst he is busy looking for his friend. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. However, they are astounded when he turns up on their doorstep later that evening, clutching a small rucksack stuffed full of silver herrings, a Polaroid camera and a selection of photographs. The illustrations beautifully add to the overall story and the darkness really helps to build an atmosphere.

At the delight of young Imogen and Arthur, Mrs Stewart insists the penguin must come and stay with them whenever he likes. But not one Stewart expects the penguin to turn up at their door that evening, rucksack labelled "Einstein" on his back. The children are the real heroes, working out Einstein’s mission and helping him and outsmarting adults left, right and centre. However, his eagerness to help arouses Imogen and Arthur’s suspicions and they decide to do some sleuthing of their own. When the Stewarts -- Dad, Mom, nine year old Imogen and 6 year old Arthur -- visit the London zoo on a cold December afternoon, the last thing they expect is for a penguin to follow them home and make himself their guest. I would expect to hear a few giggles as they read due to the wonderful humour which is carefully threaded throughout the story. Einstein escapes from the Sydney Australia zoo to London to find his friend Isaac, a rockhopper penguin who also used to live at the Sydney zoo. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally).

At the delight of young Imogen and Arthur, Mrs Stewart insists the penguin "must come and stay with them whenever he likes. A cute story that would be a fun read/read aloud for ages 4-8, but likely too juvenile for older readers.

Find out about the latest book in the 'Girl, Missing' series, Secret Sister, in this short video by author Sophie McKenzie. The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have. Iona starting writing Einstein the Penguin when her final exams came along, because it was more fun.

There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. When the Stewarts spend a sunny, frosty December day at London Zoo, they’re enchanted by one small penguin.

Many years later came the 3D animated movie ‘Madagascar” and Skipper and his team became firm favourites.
